About Lilly
The hands behind the stitches.
Made by Lilly is one person, a hook, and a basket of yarn that is always slightly too full.
Every Made by Lilly piece starts the same way: with a colour that won't leave me alone. A plum I saw in an orchard, the gold of a late afternoon, the grey of a sea that can't decide what it wants to be. From there it becomes a question of yarn, of stitch, and of patience.
I work slowly and on purpose. A shawl can take many evenings to make, and I would rather make one piece I'm proud of than ten I'm not. The small variations you'll find in a handmade piece aren't mistakes to be hidden. They're the record of the time and the hands that made it.
Each finished piece is made once. When it sells, it moves to the archive, and the next one will be different. That's the promise behind everything here: from my hands to your heart.
Made slowly
No production line, no shortcuts. Every stitch is worked by hand, and every piece is checked and finished by hand before it leaves me.
Made once
No two pieces are the same. Colour, fibre and stitch come together in a way that won't be repeated exactly.
Made to be worn
These aren't for saving for "best". They're for coats, cool evenings, train journeys and garden chairs.
